GNAR

Giving Skiing & Snowboarding an extra edge! 🤘

Welcome to GNAR.ski

This website is dedicated to The Game of GNAR, which is a great way to make Skiing & Snowboarding even more fun than it already is!

GNAR originated as a game for skiers to play in Squaw Valley, Tahoe, USA (now called Palisades Tahoe). GNAR stands for Gaffney’s Numerical Assessment of Radness. It is essentially a point-based system for determining who was the Raddest skier, in Squaw Valley over a set timeframe. Invented by the late, great Shane McConkey & his friend Robb Gaffney.

We are in no way affiliated with the originators of the GNAR game and this website is simply a homage / modification of it.

Essentially, because the original game was Skiing based for Squaw Valley, we just thought it would be a good idea open the game up to both Skiing and Snowboarding, and to make the game non-location specific with a set of formalised rules as specified below so that it can now be played anywhere.

To achieve this we have decided to focus our rules on the Extra Credit Points (ECPs) from the original game, as they can pretty much be used anywhere and are really funny. We have modified the rules to make them more universal and have added some of our own. We have also removed the Daily & Yearly Categories and just made them all Unlimited which should make things simpler, we are keeping some of the penalties too!

We also thought it would be a good idea to have a suggestion form so that people can add their own ideas – that is if they are good enough!

The Rules

  1. Decide on the group
  2. Specifiy the time limit
  3. Keep track of the scores
  4. Winner has the most points!
